Terminal lucidity is a sudden return of mental clarity and memory that happens in the final hours or days of life. It can occur in people with dementia, brain tumors, strokes, or schizophrenia.
there’s an anecdote in the book Radical Acceptance by Tara Brach PH.D. which recounts the experience of someone watching her mother die. In so many words, the story goes, suddenly and seemingly randomly, after days if not weeks of unconsciousness, the mother opened her eyes and said to the daughter:
“I wasted so much of my life thinking there was something wrong with me.”
and then she passed way.

“and after that?”
my father too.
